  • Davies on the Thames

Sitting on a bench by the Thames in London looking at the OXO building and talking with my friend I was soothed by Julian Davies playing 40 feet away during the hour we sat there. I was so distracted by his mellow calming voice that sometimes I lost myself just staring at the water and said to my friend, "If he has CDs I am buying one!" I marched right over and purchased a CD from his case on the sidewalk and complimented him on making me feel like I was in a movie. His music will forever remind me of the flowing Thames. He's extremely Talented and deserves so much more than the 10 quid he was charging.

I saw this guy perform in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco years ago (I still have the cassette tape he was selling) so this was a total surprise and very welcome. I have always liked his version of "Where Do You Go To My Lovely" over any others I have heard. A very good cover artist.

I always hate it when someone gets their hands on a classic song and destroys it. To take on songs from the likes of Dylan, Lou Reed, Simon & Garfunkel, etc., you really have huge shoes to fill. Most of these acoustic covers are great though (I leave Big Yellow Taxi out of that, because that song was never good...IN YOUR FACE, Joni Mitchell!!). I downloaded "She Belongs to Me," "Lay Lady Lay," "Northern Sky," "Where Do You Go to My Lovely?" & "The Dangling Conversation." While none are superior to the originals (except maybe the singing on Lay Lady Lay), they all are wonderful renditions.
