I will admit, if given the choice between having him and not having him I'll take him every time. With that said, this album still has the MMW vibe and jams better than 95% of my music collection. Maybe some of you guys just need to give it a few more listens. Anyway, I hate seeing a rating below at least four stars, so I had to put in my two cents---surely he'll be back for the next full band album--in the meantime, check out 'A Go-Go' w/John Scofield--it'll blow your mind!
- Fantastic

I don't see why, if you like MMW, you wouldn't like Mago. This album rocks - I love the dubby echoes on "Crustaceatron" and "Bamboo Pants," the few wild and chaotic tracks like the "Intro" and "L'aventura," and all the grooves. Contrary to several reviewers, Mago does have plenty of structure and plenty to move to.
- Awesome, even w/o Wood

I am a pretty big fan of MMW and these guys jam! This departure from MMW to MM is different but awesome. I am a bass player and love Wood, he is insane live, with that being said this is still a good album with just the drums and hammond. Definate buy if you are a fan of these guys

The collaboration of John and Billy was long in the coming and as good as it gets. The omission of Chris is not a lacking point but an addition to their collective genius This album was long in the coming and is a highlight in both of their careers. They share a collective moment and manage to stick together in their project through the great grooves. This is a must have.

I always feel let down when I listen to anything M,M, or W do for the past few years. I just don't get the (chaos) sound maybe. It seems like they're in a rut or taking some bad acid and don't realize it or something.
- PHAT AS CAN BE!!!

I concur that this is a kick drum sound you could die for. So round, boomy, yet clear and articulate enough to not sound muddled. Billy Martin's drums on this album fill the bassist's role. Not to say that Chris Wood isn't essential; hell no! But for a duet album, this is pretty F-ing rad!
I like the grooves on "Crustraceatron" and "Bonfa". I just drove home, and I seriously could not keep my hands on the wheel, it was that groove worthy. Maybe it was the music, maybe I was a bit intoxicated, or maybe both. Anyway, essential listening, period!
- Guess which reviews are from bass players?! :)

More sick Hammond runs, a kick drum sound to die for and some spaced out dub vibes sprinkled on top. Great record.
- Excellent
