Considering what the band went through when making this album, you can say that this wasn't their best work when you listen to this album, but what I can say is this: Without this album (which is very solid btw), we wouldn't have gotten Metropolis Part 2 as an album.
I do listen to this on repeat because it's still very good and Sherinian did his job for this album...shame he couldn't do more for DT.

I actually really like this album. It isn't bad at all. For the most part, it doesn't even sound that mainstream. I do think it probably would've been better if they weren't pushed so hard to make a mainstream album, and I really wish they could've put Raise the Knife on it, but it's still a great album. Lines in the Sand and Trial of Tears are amazing.

I love this album along with "a change in seasons"! I think you should keep making albums and songs! I love "New Millennium"! I'm listening to it right now!!

I sure played this tape (yes cassette) back when I was in my first college year. It has a place in my heart and I could play it over and over.
- Good album.

This album has some very good songs. Although not as intricate as other dt albums, they are still good songs. You can tell that they record label tied there hands, in reference to arrangements and what they can really do as a band. If you love dt as I do, you will like the album. Give it a chance.
- Not great but good.

This is not my favorite album from Dream Theater. All of the songs are enjoyable in their own way but lack the capability to build up to a great album. To me, this is like a compilation album for singles that didn't fit on previous albums. Some songs do spark my interest with progness and energy. New Millenium, Hell's Kitchen and Just Let Me Breathe are excelent Prog songs. Allthough this is not the best it is probably the most important. If it wasn't for this album, Dream Theater would not have made the decision to self produce and creat masterpieces as Metropolis Pt 2, Six Degrees, and Octavarium. This is an album I like to listen to on an off day.
