What can a guitarist with an electric guitar play? Hmmm...let's see. What if they began with a symphonic piece by Aaron Copeland, followed by something by Charles Ives, interpolating with songs by Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Sonny Rollins, John Phillip Sousa, John Hiatt and (bless my soul) Doris Day, rounding out the album with a folk tune and an a nearly atonal version of Billy Boy? Not forgetting, of course, the gorgeous Madonna tune (with a straight-up-and-turn-left bridge section), all arranged for a small jazz ensemble. Wouldn't that pretty much define the term "tour-de-force? Only if the guitarist has the imagination, chops, taste and confidence to pull it off! Like Bill Frisell, for instance. I can't believe after all the time this CD has been on ITunes, I'm the only one (so far) to review it. That's unfortunate. This is astounding music people! Buy it now!
