Slowly we rot is the best album from obituary. After this album the true feeling of the music just takes a gradual nosedive. This is definitely the best.

Slowly We Rot was probably the first true Death Metal album i bought back in the day. I ended up going to see Obiturary on this tour in 1990. The 2nd album was cool but ill always have the most fondness for Slowly We Rot. Tardys vocals were so over the top and horrifying at the time i couldnt help from becoming a instant fan. A Death Metal classic buy it

this album really uped the brutality quotient from what Death and Morbid Angel were doing at the same time. Allen West's slow trudging lead makes him one of the genres most recognizable guitarist, and John Tardy's mad wordless (literally there were few lyrics) roars and shrieks are still terrifying. While the formula would be much improved on the two following albums, this is when Obituary were the cutting edge of death metal.
