What an amazing concept for an album. Vivica Genaux is a powerhouse singer, and although we don't know what Farinelli sounds like--Genaux tackles this repetoire with more than enough talent to spare. There are times I find myself holding my breath with her, because her melismas and coloratura last forever! What an amazing singer. Every singer should at least LISTEN to this, because I really think few other singers could negotiate these passages even remotely.
- Very good, but not the same as the film

Contrary to what has been written in a previous review, Genaux is not the voice behind the Farinelli in the film. That was created by combining the voice of countertenor Derek Lee Ragin and female mezzo-soprano Ewa Małas-Godlewska. So, while this is an admirable recording of some of the arias that were originally sung by the greatest singer that the world has ever known, do not buy it expecting the same voice that was used in the film.
- The angelic voice of Farinelli

I originally ran across this album while searching for the soundtrack to the film "Farinelli." Alaskan native Vivica Genaux was the voice behind the memorable songs in the film, and one cannot help but lose their breath when they hear the pure emotion she can express in her tones. I'm beginning to have a real interest in Opera, and this is a fantastic introduction to Opera music. Personal favorite: "Idaspe:Qual Guerriero in Campo Armato" - The range of her voice is hypnotizing, as well as the amazing violinists in the orchestra. She is a true song bird who hopefully will remain infamous for centuries to come! Strongly recommended!
