This was a perfect time for a live album in Dan's 20+ year career (at that time). Tim is featured here as well on Twin' Theme, Intimidation & Power of Gold. What a surprise that was! A great tour, and a great set list. Love it!

I was at the Fox Theater in St. Louis when this was recorded. It is, as we were accustomed to from Dan, an excellent piece. He got me through good times and bad; he was a constant for me regardless of where I was in my life. It's head for me even now to think that he is gone from us. Thank you, Dan... For all of the music.
  • A great talent who will be missed.

This is Dan Fogelberg at his very best. What a loss to all of us who loved his music. RIP Dan.

Though Greetings From The West (and its video counterpart, available on DVD - PLEASE add to iTunes!!!) did follow Dan's last album of the eighties (Exiles) by about four years as the official review states, it also was the immediate follow-up to Fogelberg's outstanding studio release, The Wild Places, and was filmed during that tour. In fact, several of the songs from The Wild Places figure prominently on this live release, with the title track (the concert opener) and Rhythm Of The Rain allowing Fogelberg to show off his considerable electric lead guitar skills, and The Spirit Trail being one of his most earnest rock numbers ever (right up there with Face The Fire). Balance this with a beautiful solo-acoustic set, and a few new songs Fogelberg never released on studio albums (a pair of blues numbers, plus the haunting Cry In The Forest), and you see how this is a "must have" release. A surprise guest appearance by Tim Weisberg (Fogelberg's flautist collaborator from 1978's Twin Sons Of Different Mothers) is icing on the cake. Outstanding live recording...

Filled with favorites as well as a mix of other well written and well played cuts - this is an excellent way for those who hadn't seen Dan perform live to feel connected to him. A great artist and even better songwriter - the songs are each a musical journey and story unto themselves. Music will miss this great contributor and his work which touched so many will live on. Rest in peace Dan.
