Still have a hard copy which shares his thoughts on each song, an amazing insite into the stories of his life that made up these songs and many more inbetween. The hard copy is out of print but it's great to see it's made it's way to digital stores. This is a PERFECT highlight of most of the best songs of Dan's career. Well worth $30 seeing as since his death copies go for almost $100.00. Treat yourself to this collection then sit back and let one of the best story telling songwriters of the time do what he did best.

This compliation is fantastic. You can follow his journey as an artist from his early beginnings to his tragic end. We miss you, Dan, but at least we will have your music forever.

i have always loved dan and his music and i can honestly write, he helped me through some very difficult times! my favorite dan songs are probably not on a greatest hits list: tuscon, arizona; stars; wysteria; give me some time; promises made….etc., etc.!!! i had just moved to the atlanta area in 2004 and read that dan was going to play at chastain amphitheater and i immediately rushed out to buy tickets. then the sad news, dan had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and the concert was cancelled. how could this be? how could this voice be silenced?? i know you are in a better place now dan and your fans are in a better world because of your beautiful music. rip my friend…rip!!

Dan Fogelberg is original to his own work and in his own time. This box set is a great compilation of his work. I personally believe that he is under played and over looked by many. If anyone has a love for music and storytelling this is the set to get, for the historic value as well as the quality of his work.

If you've never bought any of Dan's albums, this is a must have. It has everything he released from the beginning of his carreer in 1972 through 1997 plus a couple new ones. There isn't a song that won't blow you away with the talent behind it.
  • Great compilation, but...

Tullamore Dew is messed up! Therefore, Phoenix is also messed up! On the album, Phoenix, the time on Tullamore is 1:17, where on this compilation it is 4:16. This needs to be fixed. This is a great compilation of Dan Fogelbergs work, but this error needs fixing. Having "There Is A Place In The World For A Gambler" would have been nice, too!
  • I don't do LIVE music

I love Dan Fogelberg. I have the LP's to prove it..... but I oh so hate those LIVE version songs. Clapping, compromised quality.... but what I hate the most is that my beloved songs almost always change. I get it- they have sung the song a million times and they want to change it up.... but I don't want it different. I want the version played on the radio... the version I know by heart, etc. "Leader of the Band" is a LIVE version on this album. I don't know about the rest. If you don't mind LIVE, then this is a great song. Dan can sing and does a great job on "Leader of the Band". It just isn't the version that I fell in love with decades ago. iTunes needs to get better descriptions of the songs so that things like this don't happen as often.

The music of Dan Fogelberg has a been such a large part of my life...from first hearing it in my best friends basement in high school, to having another friend play "Longer" at my wedding, to hearing "Sometimes a Song" when they announced he had died. Portrait is the perfect title for this collection, Dan's music paints the picture of anyones life. He sings about good times and bad times, pleasures and pains, highs and lows, finding someone and losing someone...His death may be "Part of the Plan" but we'll be "Missing You"....the "Leader of the Band" has joined God's chorus......A Fan in Indy
