Striking and unquestionably beautiful. Can move me to tears in seconds. I do consider this one of the greatest film scores ever written.

Great movie, even greater soundtrack. This is one of my Top 10's. Majestic, exciting, beautiful score my John Barry. I am a big Hans Zimmer fan and Mr. Barry is right up there. Journey to the Buffalo Hunting Grounds is excellent. Highly reccomend.

I used to listen to this any time I drove from Dallas to Tucson, along those wonderful stretches of I-20 and then I-10, westbound, through the progrssively more and more beautiful American deserts. I thought it was, and is, so apropos, as this soundtrack, to me, very succinctly captures that spirit of the American frontier. Simply a gorgeous soundtrack. Probably in my top five of all time.

I heard a much better version at smoothjazzchicago.net It used to be WNUA 95.5 fm in Chicago The host Rick O'Dell plus some of the best smooth jazz and New Age music. On Sundays there is my favorite show called Sunday Brunch which starts at 6:00am Chicago time. Let me tell you I have learned about so many artists like Patrick O'Hearn,3rd Force,Enya,Pete Barden..... RickO'Dell is the best.

One of my all-time favorite movie soundtracks. In fact, it might just be my overall favorite. The film itself was terrific - Kevin Kostner's high point, in my opinion - which helps in appreciating the music.

As wonderful a movie Dances With Wolves is, this music made it twice as good. I can not think of any soundtrack that was better matched to a movie and so original. Suspense, power, fear, and a proud people all come across in Barry's wonderful melodies he penned for Dances With Wolves. Of all the soundtracks I own, this one is by far my favorite. Its a wonderful marriage of horns and violins that set the tone for scenes so well. My favorites are the farewell and end credits, a scene as sad as when E.T. dies as well as the music for going to the hunting grounds.

The only reason that I cannot state that John Barry's score for "Dances With Wolves" is the greatest film score ever made is that I have not seen every movie ever made. As a collector of film scores I can say that it is the best that I've ever heard. This 70 minute+ soundtrack contains dozens of melody lines, all lush, elegant, and beautiful. The 24 songs on this album perfectly capture the adventurous spirit of the open, unsettled frontier. It's a testament to the strength of the album that the celebrated John Dunbar Theme, though gorgeous, is nowhere near the strongest. Many melodies are contained in only one track, like the astounding "Ride to Fort Hays". The iTunes review here is garbage. The James Bond soundtracks are good, sure, but the review is shallow and pathetic for constantly comparing light pop works to such an exquisite and majestical score as "Dances With Wolves". This is an amazing, amazing piece of work.
