I must have seen Dan in concert more than any other artist. I was a big fan. I was lucky to see him in concert after this and his follow up records (albums/CDs). The songs on this album I usually look forward to hearing more than some others. However, Souveneiers, Netherlands, and Innocent Age are records that are right up there. Too bad that we lost him so early. I can see taking my children to see his concerts today, if he were still alive. RIP Dan.

As an avid Fogelberg consumer and performing artist/singer/songwriter, I can attest to Fogelberg's solid writing and performance on this album. Sometimes if we don't have an event or emotional reality to music, we let it slip by us unnoticed or unappreciated. This album debuted when I first went to LA to "make it in the music industry." The Knack with My Sharona set the entire industry in a new direction, which Dan did not follow. He kept true to himself through out most of his career and when he tried to be something he wasn't, he wasn’t. The production is clean, his vocals are clear. Tullamore Dew begins the journey and I found it quite satisfying then, as I do now. Dan was one of the truly great American singer songwriters of his century, accomplished at both singing and songwriting he is on par in quality and quantity with Paul Simon, James Taylor, Kenny Rankin, Billy Joel, Steve Miller, Christopher Cross, John Mayer.

One of my favorite albums, Phoenix tells the eloquent truth, both good and bad, about love. Falling madly, deeply passionately- in (Gypsy Wind and Beggars Game) the desire to make a lifetime commitment, (The classic LONGER), What it feels like when love falls apart (The Last to Know) or, how we all want to run from love when we've been hurt (Heart Hotel)-There will never be anyone in my opinion, quite like this artist, who was able to see so clearly into the human heart and reflect it back to us with such lyrical, emotional and musical brilliance. The world is a much better place because you were here. Rest in peace.

I'd only been married for a short time when I first heard the song "Longer" during my daily commute. I couldn't wait to share it with my husband. We decided to buy the album as an anniversary present for ourselves. This is an album that is full of memories & will always mean a lot to my husband and I. (We were some of the first in line for tickets when he came to Salt Lake City. Unfortunately, he cancelled due to throat problems. We were sorely disappointed & we never got another chance to see him in concert.)

Released in November of 1979 it is full of music that soothes your soul, lifts your spirits and makes you think Dan got into your head and heart writing the songs just for you. Tullamore Dew allows your mind to relax when you need it most. The title track gives you strength to pull yourself out of the ashes of a love lost or other down period of your life. Gypsy Wind reminds you to listen to your heart. The Last to Know says it all in it's title. Face the Fire brings out the need to protect the Earth that the good Lord put into our care that in turn cares for us. Wishing on the Moon is, to me, the searching for yourself one does throughout their life. Not always finding who you are in the places you look. Heart Hotels is about what love can do to your very being, only to want it once more. Longer is "our song" to so many of my age, including me and my love, that met and married their spouses in late 1979 or 1980. Beggars Game is of love found a new, fresh and full of the beginning happiness that love brings. Something we all beg for inside our very souls. And last, Along the Road is about the path love often takes. All Dan's songs are beautifully written both in word and instrumental. No one did it better. I doubt there ever will be anyone that even comes close to his talent.

Great memories from great music. I had Phoenix on 8-track when it was originally released. I had forgotten how much I loved it then. Love it now! Dan Fogelberg was a wonderful artist and musician.

While not quite up to the excellence of Souvenirs, this album still holds its own. At 7 minutes in length, the title track is one heck of a bargain for 99 cents, and is one of Dan's best harder-rocking tunes. Other favorites of mine are Face The Fire, Wishing On The Moon and Along The Road.
  • Great album.

Beggar's game might be Fogelberg's best song. It's definitely his most underated.
