It's Desolation Row by way of Highway 61, winding up in an elegaic nightmare of squandered human possibility and the triumph of raw worldly power. Love is a memory; hope is a memory; the present is a memory. Through this world strides Bob Dylan as Jack Fate, Bob Dylan as the downfallen son of the world's dictator, rescued from the prison where he seems to spend his days for a futile attempt at a musical benefit for world peace. They can't get anyone else.
