I think Doyle's score for Much Ado About Nothing is wonderful and adds a great deal to the feel of the movie, for which I own the video and soundtrack. In fact, the score was one of my favorite things about the movie. The music perfectly reflects the comedy, romance and drama in the film. As someone with a Master's in Music, I can safely say that it was fairly common for some of the greatest composers in history to borrow snippets from their previous works or from the works of their contemporaries. Nevertheless, I own the Henry V soundtrack, and their are very few similarities in melodic structure between Much Ado About Nothing and Henry V. There may be similar use of instrumentation and chordal structure, but that's what makes each composer's style unique and recognizable. The same was true for Mozart, Richard Strauss, Wagner, Brahms, etc. (And who doesn't recognize the scores of such film composers as John Barry, Thomas Newman, Rachel Portman, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, etc., all of whom have unique, recognizable styles for the same reason.) As for Branaugh's movies: I've loved nearly every movie he's made. I find his ebullient, earnest style of directing "very" refreshing. He makes Shakespeare's words come alive and relatable to the common man in a way that other directors simply do not. I suspect Shakespeare would have greatly approved of Branaugh's film interpretations of his works and would appreciate even more that his movies have brought forth a renewed interest in and enjoyment of his plays not only by today's scholars and intellectuals but to everyone. It is Branaugh's enthusiastic and earnest style that has made that possible, and I suspect that was his intention; for Shakespeare should be able to be understood and appreciated by everyone, not just the elite.

This music and movie is the kind you save for any day, but particularly a "rainy day." The cinematography and the score, from the moment the adventure begins, sweep you into the beautiful and hilarious world of Shakespeare's delightsome prose set to this wonderful score of Patrick Doyle and the backdrop of beautiful Italy. You will find yourself humming "Sigh No More" and wanting to recreate that joyous moment throughout your day. This score will bring about an uplifting and moving listening experience.

Mr. Doyle's more contemporary compositions pale in comparison to this wonderous, fantastic score. I have to admit I thought little of Patrick Doyle in recent years, but now I have been enlightened. This is a great buy, 24 songs for ten bucks, well worth the money!

This is one of the best scores by Patrick Doyle, the highlight being track number 9. Nothing is better than this collection of music (except perhaps the score to "The Mission" or "Il Postino").
