I’ll update this review once the album drops, but so far it’s like Mike Portnoy never left. The juicy mixing of Andy Sneap remains, but now Portnoy is back and you can hear it. The Mangini era had a couple of stinkers, but overall he got way too much hate from the toxic fanbase and is probably the best drummer alive right now. It was just that he wasn’t the personality and driving force Portnoy is, despite being a jaw dropping player. The songwriting also seemed a bit off though still good. Not off anymore, so far. Let us see what they cooked up, can’t wait to the rest of the album!

NT sounds like it could have been on any of their last 6 albums. They are not able to change the way great bands do over time.

Not really . After metropolis they forgot to write good vocal lines and melodies, Mangini or Portnoy, who cares, when the music is bad , great musicians but awful songwriters
