Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At The Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967

Am a bit disappointed with this release. Sgt. Pepper is played truncated for whatever reason leaving the middle chorus out, Jimi forgets several segments of lyrics at the beginning of Wind Cries Mary, the mics at the start are fuzzy and the guitar gets drowned out by Mitch’s drums. But by Catfish Blues everyone seems to have gotten into a grove and Purple Haze is quite good, then things get uninspiring again with a disappointing Wild Thing rendition. Not to criticize the performers, obviously Jimi is in a world of his own but not every concert has to be monetized, we’re all not firing 100% most of the time so I definitely don’t fault the musicians for just going through the motions once in a while like the rest of us. Just put out the stuff that really showcases musicians talents, and unfortunately this one isn’t that, just a money grab…

What a great show! Way better quality than the 1968 album included in the 2018 Electric Ladyland 50th anniversary release. Worth listening to LOUD!!!
