I started listening to Laura Nyro in 1967 in Cape Town. I could not believe how talented a vocalist she was then. It inspired me to move to New York to hear her and so many others. I am glad to be back listening to her music again. Thank you for so much joy.

I remember the day Laura Nyro died I was driving to work and NPR's Scott Simon was reviewing her life and music. This true was the day the music died for me. Any songs with Laura Nyro's powerful vocals just make you want to relax and go to a better place. The talent and scope of Nyro is represented in this must have album. The world will miss this angelic voice.

What can be said about a Great Talent!!! The songs that she wrote and re-done by others are almost countless!!! Thank you Laura for the wonderful songs you wrote and inspired!! In 1996 Laura was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After the diagnosis, Columbia Records prepared a double-disc CD retrospective of material from her years at the label. The company involved Nyro herself, who selected the tracks and approved the final project. She lived to see the release of Stoned Soul Picnic: The Best of Laura Nyro (1997), and was reportedly pleased with the outcome. Nyro died of ovarian cancer in Danbury, Connecticut on April 8, 1997, at the age of 49. The same disease had claimed the life of her mother at the same age.

Having grown up in and around NYC I've heard some wonderful music, seen amazing bands and I can tell you the debt owed this woman spans so much time and space it will almost certainly never be acknowledged but if you ever run into anyone who had a record that was a hit while you were alive ask them what they think of Laura Nyro. Open a bottle of wine, light up a very good cigar or just lock the door and shut off the phone. Listening to this will put things in prespective.
