Let yourself get lost in this heady sensation of music, memories, times past. Trust me, it’s worth the price of admission.

I was there...watching this version of Weather Report and I was stunned by the addition of Jaco Pastorius. If you are in your late 50's or older, you'll remember hearing "TEENTOWN" and "BIRDLAND" Get a lot of airtime. I compare it to Cliffs of Dover and Trademark by Eric Johnson. Many years in the making and still marvelous whenever you throw the cd in. Thanks to Jow Z, Wayne S, Jaco P, and th rest of the crew on this album...it's as good as virtuosity has been put to work.

All I have to say is that you don't hear jazz like this anymore. Today's jazz is nothing more than elevator music. I consider this the golden age of modern jazz.

One of the most beautiful compositions ever, any genre. Soulful and moving.

Although I already own this amazing album on vinyl -- I acquired it new when I was a teenager and listened to it religiously back then -- I heard "A Remark You Made" while in a store this weekend and decided I had to have Heavy Weather in my iTunes immediately.
After all this time and the all the music that has been made and remade, Heavy Weather is still a solid gem. Genius musicians at the apex of their talents.
- Great album, lower price if you pay attention

I copied this from my own review on *another* music download service:
I like this album a lot, but I'm no expert in jazz so you'd be better off reading other reviews.
However, I wanted to point out that since there are only 8 songs at 99 cents each, you can get this album for only $7.92 if you buy each song individually, rather than clicking the buy album button. That's just over $2 cheaper than the normal $9.99 album price. Enjoy!
Note: Since Birdland is 'Album Only' you can just buy it from one of the other albums it comes on.
Also in response to the conversation about high school bands playing Birdland, check out El Dorado High School perform Birdland. It's extremely well done. You can find it on... uh... a major online video site.

- Jaco was a genius

I heard Jaco's solo album and then this album (I had listened to Weather Report prior to Jaco showing up). I proceeded to have my 1976 fretless Precision Bass modified with J-Bazz pickups, a sunk bridge and a new ebony and birds-eye maple neck. It sounded as close to Jaco as I could get it (I still have the bass to this day). I sat down for a few days and learned Portrait of Tracy (from his eponymous album) and Teen Town (off this album) and never looked back. It's a shame he left us so early, but I guess with genius comes torture.

This rendition of Birdland, I saw them play (1979-80 or there bouts).. at The Great Southern Music Hall in Orlando, FL. Long gone by now, it was essentially an old movie theater converted for traveling bands. What an awesome setting it was. I still hear them and see them in my mind... it was just an incredible show. They played an experience I'll not forget. "Heavy Weather" is a must have classic!!!!!
