Olivia Newton-John's Greatest Hits (Deluxe Edition) [Remastered 2022]

After praising the remastered Greatest Hits Vol. 2. This is the equivalent of taking two steps backwards. Missed opportunity, ONJ deserves better.

I had been looking for a good copy of Country Roads and Argentina. Previous cd compilations did not do them justice. Now, these gems are here in full sonic glory! I hope the Totally Hot album is next on the remaster list. / Olivia’s music lives on!

Olivia at her best…these remastered songs are beautifully done and showcase her amazing vocals…

It is amazing to see the release of this deluxe edition of her first greatest hits collection, before she becomes a world phenomenon with Grease, Physical, Xanadu and Twist of Fate OST and more music that have proved she’s one of the best vocalist of the XX and XXI: versatile and beautiful inside out. This deluxe edition includes GH that weren’t in the original version, has been carefully remastered by @vinnyvero and is part of how much recognition deserves the amazing Olivia. She will be missed but never forgotten. Her musical and human legacy will get stronger with time. We already have deluxe editions of Physical and If not for you, both perfectly crafted. We can’t expect less from this one and the forthcoming. Great job @primarywave !

This collection was released in the fall of 1977 and serves as a great overview of Olivia Newton-John's recording career before her career took off in a new and exciting direction with the release of the movie musical "Grease" the following summer. What makes this a "Deluxe Edition" is the fact that Primary Wave Music have combined all the tracks from the US, UK and Australian versions of this album which makes a nice and very comprehensive collection of her best material from 1971-1977. It's really more of a "Best of Olivia Newton-John" since some of the songs on here weren't chart hits but are still some of her best recorded vocal performances. "Let Me Be There" earned ONJ her first Grammy for Best Female Country Performance and the following year "I Honesty Love You" won the Grammy for Record of the Year. The latter track and "Have You Never Been Mellow" both hit #1 on the Billboard charts and those songs along with seven others in this set were #1 hits on the US Adult Contemporary charts as well as hitting the Top 10 on the US country charts. Over in the UK, she had great success with her covers of Bob Dylan's "If Not For You" (which also hit the charts in the US), the folk ballad "Banks of the Ohio" and John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads." Other highlights are her cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene", The Hollies' "The Air That I Breathe" and "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from the Broadway musical "Evita." All the tracks have been remastered from the original tapes and sound excellent. It's so nice to see Olivia's rich musical legacy being preserved, especially after her recent passing. I hope this collection will serve as a reminder (or an introduction) that Olivia was a hugely successful recording artist BEFORE she took on the iconic role of Sandy in "Grease!"
