Best of compilations always threaten to irritate the hardcore fan, but this one is WAY off the mark. The zeno records website has all you need, including a boxset of their first 3 albums for under $20. They also carry cdrs of all wipers albums, most for around $6. All kinds of deals on there, and you'll be supporting Mr. Sage directly as it's his website. Look further than itunes and you will find a lifetime of amazing Wipers/Greg Sage material!
  • Best band ever.

And though there are some great songs in here, if you're really looking to expirience the magic of The Wipers, then you gotta get your hands on their first three albums by any means.

Rainy sounding, angsty, great songwriting and guitars. A little serious but totally awesome. You can hear the Real Deal here. Romeo seems like a total classic and no wants an alien comes from the heart.

As others have said, this album really misses the mark on some of their best work. That said, The Wipers are mindblowing.

Pretty good cross section if you're interested in dipping your toe into the Wipers. If you're headed for the diving board get the box set of the first three albums (Is this Real?, Youth of America, Over the Edge) on Zeno records. 51 tracks for $17. I pissed my pants when I got it.

Probably one of the most underrated American bands...
  • why is their "best of" missing their best songs?

this has always been a weird collection. right now on itunes i need: over the edge, telepathic affair, tragedy, return of the rat ... pretty much full albums of Is This Real?, Youth of America, Over the Edge. three stars outta respect, but i'm only buying a couple tracks.

Their legacy as the "first grunge band" hardly does them justice. Soulful (dare I say emo?) punk and rock with the most blazing DIY guitar sound you ever heard, the Wipers rarely hit a bum note in their early years. This collection is marred only by the exclusion of their first record "Is This Real?" but is otherwise a great place to start.
