The combination of chello and banjo is a match made in heaven. Of particular note is big country.

Give this one several months to really start to sink in. Then, just when you feel like you've got it, sit back and relax and prepare to be amazed over and over again. Where Skip, Hop, & Wobble is pure ear candy and suited for anyone who loves music, Uncommon Ritual strikes the perfect balance of enjoyable and demanding. Not everyone will like it, but I dare say that most would love it if they're willing to stick with it. I'm currently struggling to "get" the new trend of acoustic duos(such as Music for Two, Thile & Meyer, and Into the Cauldron). There's just something magical about a trio.

I first bought this ablum because I am a huge Bela Fleck fan, and wanted to hear something other than his solo and Flecktones work. I had never heard of Edgar Meyer before; hearing the first song alone was enough to satisfy this purchase completely. I soon had the pleasure of seeing them perform live, and as much as I love Bela, Edgar's performace and abilities were breathtaking. His ability to speak with the double bass is unsurpassed. Uncommon Ritual is probably the most commonly appreciated track, but listen after listen of the entire album will make all of them your favorites. Though the entire album is great, my favorites are Chance Meeting, In the Garden, By the River, and Sliding Down, respectively.

Seperately Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck and Mike Marshall are amazing in their own unique ways - together they are just breathtaking. From Old Tyme to Child's Play to Sliding Down (which I can, and have, listen to over and over on repeat) this album is worth a listen. If you've enjoyed albums like Appalachian Walz and Appalachian Journey, Uncommon Ritual will make a wonderful additional to your Bluegrass/Americana collection.
