I’ve been listening to Insomnium for many years. This album is by far my favorite! It’s been quite some time that a WHOLE album meant this much to me. Twilight Trails is like nothing I’ve ever heard. The song gets deep, down into your soul. I have listened to it over 50 times. Karelia 2049 is like if you were in a scene on Stranger Things. I’m just so unbelievably proud of these guys and can’t wait to see them again in March!

Insomnium never disappoint, and this is definitely no exception. Might be their best. The only negative thing I can think of is, there really aren’t a whole lot of clean vocals, given the length of the album. It’s a minor complaint, but do enjoy when they use them more. Lots of acoustic guitar on this one, and love it!

A remarkably well executed album, more emphasis on melody, despite many of the songs being longer they still feel succinct. The material is laid out well providing the proper hills and valleys approach in terms of song order. With so many standout songs it’s just a put it on and let it play album, Pale Morning Star is heavy as hell with the weight of a fractured heart, just a gorgeous ode to someone gone too soon whoever it may be. Neverlast is the band channeling their inner Dark Tranquillity, Mute is My Sorrow has hooks aplenty, just so many good songs. Winters Gate impressed me and then this one just took it to another level, also really enjoy the inclusion of instrumentals which are increasingly difficult to find from groups with a vocalist, Karelia being a full on jam and The True Morning Star evoking classic In Flames acoustic work. Looking forward to tour with Omnium.

Let the darkness in. It’s here and in a well crafted form of melodic metal that inspires power.

This is their most straight forward and immediately approachable album since Weeping Wold. They’ve honed their song and expanded their ability to explore their musical ideas and allow them to wander a bit, allowing for more lengthy, fleshed out songs that don’t drag on or wear out their welcome. This is a band that is very confident in what they do. That’s about the only thing to complain about here. There’s very few new ideas, but what is here sounds incredible and time will have to judge whether it’s a classic or a sign of stagnation.

The guitar riffs on the album is absolutely outstanding. The whole album seems like its telling a story. It has a beginning, it has an end and everything in between. It is telling the saddest stories in the most beautiful way.
  • Insomnium can do no wrong.
