Returned to this album after a heartbreaking loss in my life, and it hit me at a deeply emotional level. Jon took a classic - “What A Wonderful World” - and made it his own with his trademark optimism. “Mr. Buddy” - my God. I absolutely WEPT. “Is It Over” and “Don’t Stop” are raw emotion. “We Are” is his Grammy-winning album, and deservedly so, but this one may be his best.

This album is gorgeous. Jon Batiste radiates light through and through. If you haven’t heard it, listen to the Song Exploder podcast episode with him about “We Are” (not on this album).

I'm an old man. I've been playing the piano all my life and I've been a jazz fan throughout. I grew up with Oscar Peterson, Brubeck, Ahmad Jamal, Ellington, and dozens of others, most all of them now deceased. People like John Baptiste show us that the form is healthy and thriving among young people. Baptiste is as refreshing, as creative, as full of personality and love for hs art that I am just bowled over by his art. His progressions, his way of looking at standards like "The Very Thought of You" is just a breaeth of fresh air. This album is just wonderful in every respect. Buy without trepidation.

I am late to this Jon Batiste party! I am so glad to be here. Honestly, it took some listens to get the groove. This music is so delightful and soulful. Thank you, Jon. When I hear Nocturne No. 1 in D Minor, I have this vision of two people dancing the paso doble to.

I heard an interview with Jon Batiste and Terry Gross and bought the album. I can’t stop listening to it. Great piano, jazz, classical... it hits all the right keys.

B.B. Kimg once said to Bono,”you’re awful young to writing lyrics this deep” man I don’t know who’s taught this kid the depths of hurt, but he’s got some real insight to know how to compile a collection like this. Every time I hear it I want us all to be better humans.
