Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John

I'm writing this review for all the 40-somethings who grew up idolizing ONJ. For all the girls who rollerskated in their driveways to the Xanado soundtrack, and who only sang the naughty words to the Grease soundtrack when you were in the backyard with your friends, out of earshot of your parents. Remember growing up in the 80's, and going to your favorite amusement park, where they'd have those "recording studio" locations? You and your friends could pay $10 and cram into the little studio, and sing along to your favorite songs and they'd record it and give you a tape? That's EXACLTY what this album reminds me of. Crappy, canned music and unimaginative vocal stylings. I knew I would be hard to please, because I LOOOVE ONJ. She was my first concert when I was about 10. I really TRIED to like this album. But this girl's voice sounds EXACTLY the same (same effects, or auto-tuning, or whatever) on every single track. And the music is seriously lacking. Like what you'd hear at a Karaoke bar. I'm really annoyed that I spent money on this. REALLY. ANNOYED. Hoping I'll save someone else from making the same mistake. If you're feeling nostalgic, drag out your "Physical" album and run far away from THIS atrocity.

With only a slight interest in Olivia, this album made me reconsider. There is definitely something about Olivia’s voice that makes me want to run off to Xanadu and be with her.

Who knew Juliana was a ringer for Olivia all these years later? Perhaps their similarities are part of the draw to both artists for us older folk. :) I do wish the vocals on Xanadu were a bit more focused. Otherwise, freakin right on!

No, Juliana. We don't care that you made some bad investments that require you to come out of your forced retirement for being too much a Sheryl Crow wannabe. You're going to have to find something else to support you. Your one hit wonder in the 90s was not it then. And trying to cover Olivia Newton John is not now. The only saving grace is your sound mixer decided to try to drown your voice out with the wall of instrumentals so much so it's almost instrumental.

Great melodies toughened up with a tight guitar based rock ‘n’ roll feel. Vocals are sincere and sweet, words that could describe Olivia’s voice too. I am so glad Juliana Hatfield made this record.

Being a fan of both greats, this project done beautifully by Juliana Hatfield makes my heart sing. The way she keeps the heart of a song intact while giving it just the right touches shows her love for the project and the people that will listen to these great songs.

Ms. Hatfield does covers of Olivia Newton-John classics with reverence, yet is not afraid to put her own spin on them, giving them new life, making you appreciate the songs all over again. My favorite tracks are the ones that are completely different than the originals — "Totally Hot" and, surprisingly "Dancin' Round and Round," a song I never really liked that much before, but boy this version is fantastic! I'm sure Olivia Newton-John is very delighted with this collection.

It is unexpected to find this two singers crossing paths in this Juliana's new project. The emblematic rocker and the music made iconic by the aussie star blend perfectly well. Where Juliana can´t achieve Olivia´s perfect voice she adds a smart twist that converts this tribute in something more than a mere tribute. It would have been interesting to listen a duet of this two great singers thou.

What a treat! I absolutely love this excellent compilation of Juliana's! I have always loved Olivia, and hearing Juliana's rendition of her songs is so refreshing and exciting as Juliana recreates them is her own style of which is just excellent! I'm so happy with this new album! Thank you, Juliana for this amazing work, and of course, ThankYyou, Olivia, for all the joy you have brought to my life!!
