Soooo, good! Honestly, I would have bought anything new from them - but such a pleasant surprise to have the new release be so good - similar to tehir old stuff but also somehow fresh - and a little more contained. The post punk kids grew up but they still have the fire in them - or some thing like that. Maybe great riffs behind Greg's always pained-but-looking-up vocals. Lots of great tracks - and although it might draw some judgement for being a bit indie rock sounding, I found some interesting departure in the soaring, Toy Automatic. Even without their legacy, this is an excellent album.

Wow! I could listen to Oriole forever! Seeing them May 10, and it can’t get here fast enough.

One of the best albums released last year, possibly the best.

Most artists would be content to coast on nostalgia by the time that their careers hit the 30 Year mark, but no one will ever accuse Greg Dulli of being like most artists. Three years after the band’s first post-hiatus album, Do to the Beast, dispelled any concerns about whether the the Whigs could still rock, the Dulli & Co. have delivered what may be their finest album yet.

Some music and the bands that play it are timeless. Meaning to say they're sound doesn't bandwagon jump. Constant doesn't always mean same. The Whigs take that notion further on the aptly named In Spades. I've said it before and bound to again after this: The Afghan Whigs are America's Rolling Stones

If you love Greg Dulli you will love this album, period. Toy Automatic is one of the most beautiful songs AW or Twilight Singers ever did. Opening track to closing track each song is tight and doesn't let down fans who know their prior work. Also surprises with some varied vocal work we haven't heard before. A beautiful rock record.

    The title says it all!!!
  • This is not an Afghan Whigs album - it's Twilight Singers lite.

I've been following the Whigs since the opus Gentlemen...but this effort is nothing more than recycled gems from past glory. I Love Greg, but I can find a single teach outside of Birdland that's a recycled interpretation. I've listened to the album three times through, and each song feels like an outtake of previous sessions. Bummed to say the least. I'll jump back to Whigs classics Black Love, 1965, then Twilight singers Blackberry Belle. For the casual fan, enjoy, but this will be collecting dust on my mantle.
