    A gorgeous musical suicide note.
  • One of the greats

One of the greatest albums ever. As they were falling apart, you could hear it in the songwriting and performances here. The old LP I have is titled “Third / Sister Lovers”. Guess they took that part out. Anyway - this isn’t always an easy listen; but it is always beautiful, and always engaging to the point of infinite fascination. Buy this.
  • An absolutely perfect record

Everything about this album is emotionally investing. It is in stark contrast to their other two outings, and it is all the better for it. The band sounds like they don't care, and this results in some truly soul crushing tracks, particularly 'Holocaust'. However, it does have moments of fun (the opening 'Kizza Me') and moments of beauty (the 12-string acoustic wonder 'Kangaroo' and Velvet Underground and Nico cover 'Femme Fatale'). I think anyone could relate to this album and get sucked into the world of Big Star. I would also recommend their first album 'No. 1 Record' as well as the documentary 'Nothing Can Hurt Me', which is on Netflix.
