I saw this show in Chicago about two years ago. All I can say is that it will NEVER hit Broadway and that is a good thing. It is too long, too loud, and a way too self aggrandizing narcassistic mess of garbage. The show really stinks. And from the sound of this album, he didnt change it too much! Sorry Dennis, just stick to Styx! PLEASE!

Bought this years ago right after it was recorded. It is a fantastic recording full of wonderful songs. My only regret is that I have never been able to see the stage production. Get it!
  • You got to see it!

As I said, the musical is amazing and should most definitely be seen given the opportunity. this CD was a bit of a let down after seeing the show though. Looking forward to a cast recording I simply got Dennis de Young, who is amazing (don't get the wrong idea), but ideally get a cast cd if possible. if not. this album is still fine

Dennis DeYoung has always written songs that sound like they belong on a Broadway stage and this just adds to the long list. Simply an amazing album. If you love great songwriting then this is an album to have in your collection. I hope that this one lands on Broadway someday soon.
  • A Stunning Piece of Work

It must be remembered that this was a demo CD, so DeYoung handled nearly all the lead vocal parts, even dueting with himself, as well as much of the layered choral work. He is ably abetted by Dawn Marie Feusi, who sings the Esmerelda parts. Beautiful, beautiful music dominates this very fine demo of his musical, which has received rave reviews in its reworked format onstage in Chicago, as well as receiving a Jefferson Award nomination. Standouts are Ave Maria, With Every Heartbeat, Esmerelda, While There's Still Time, Paradise, Beneath the Moon, Who Will Love This Child and a spectacular This I Pray. Hmmm....named most of this work, I did! Well worth having this fine work in your collection. DeYoung's voice is unique and it just soars on this recording.

There is only 1 song in this entire albulm I DON"T listen to every day, and that's While There's Still Time. Don't hesitate to buy this; you'll make the right choice.

This isn't my favorite. BUT, I do like a few really pretty songs. "Paradise", "With Every Heartbeat", "Beneath the Moon", "While There's Still Time", "This I Pray", and "Esmerelda" are really sweet and beautiful. Dennis DeYoung may not have the strongest voice, but he can sure write an- interesting, for lack of a better word,- musical.

This album is amazing! I can't stop listening to it! All of the songs are just absolutely beautiful! Especially 'With Every Heartbeat.' Simply phenominal! DeYoung takes the classic story of Quasimodo and combines it with absolutely beautiful, powerful and moving music! Definitely worth the money!
  • A Bit of Trivia and a Recommendation

Recommendation: BRILLIANT! Beautiful, bittersweet and powerful, exemplified by the duet "With Every Heartbeat", which is as good as any showstopper can hope to get (and far better than those in many other shows). Though tracks like "Who Will Love this Child?" and "Confrontation" are sure to please, "With Every Heartbeat" alone is worth the price of the entire album. Trivia: Dennis DeYoung released "Hunchback" at least as early as 1996. I bought mine at the "Return to the Paradise Theatre concert in the summer of that year and ordered additional copies as gifts for friends and family directly from his Grand Illusion label.
  • An awesome story!

This is a concept album that has been in the making for a good number of years, and I can imagine this show actually being staged! Dennis DeYoung is incredible on his vocals and has selected many other talented vocalists for the other roles! If you like Broadway albums or Dennis DeYoung, then this is definitely worth a listen.
