I just discovered this band and I love it! Very my thing with trippy robotic/space themes and good beats. My favorite song is Space Girl followed by Fire Fire

Of course there are fans who will blindly rate anything SPG does 5 stars. I'm not one of them. The Vice Quadrant Pts 1 & 2 have the same problem many concept albums do, some really great songs with some subpar filler songs mixed in. They seem to have lost something after The Jon and Hatchworth left, and the new members haven't stepped up.

Vice Quadrant is absolutely amazing! The story and timeline are extremely intriguing, and adds a lot to the current story behind the bots and the Walters! As a musical theatre aficionado, I love the songs that explicitly try to emulate that feel of listening to a musical, especially Necrostar, The Vice Does Tight, and Hold Me. While I don't recommend this for first time listeners (MK III and Album One are good starters), this is an excellent listen for those who are familiar with the backstory off the band.

I think in this album we can hear a little bit less of The Spine and a little more of David Michael Bennett, as far as inspiration and personality. I can tell it comes to him (relatively) easily, and he does it exceptionally well. I was so lucky to have met them at their show at Old Tucson. David is sweet and absolutely adorable.
  • A Perfect Album

Both parts 1 and 2 of VQ show how amazing SPG really is. They have a unique style, but could be compared to the genius of The Beatles or Pink Floyd. This album is the perfect gateway for new fans, and a find remind of why we love the band for old.

As a huge fan of Steam Powered Giraffe I found that these albums were rather disappointing. It's more of a rock kind of band. However some songs were rather good the rest not my cup of tea. I wanted more songs like from their previous albums. I am hoping that their next one is just like the previous ones.

I wanted to wait until my twelfth complete listen before reviewing. This album is not just a great Steam Powered Giraffe album, it's just a great album in general. The stories are intricate and even heartbreaking at times. SPG tells three stories, each with their own and interlinking characters. Commander Cosmo's journey into becoming a god-like cosmic being, a poor astronaut kept and corrupted by the daughter of space, and SPG themselves helping WINK the satellite. What I really want to praise is the songs that have nothing to do with the actual stories. The regular SPG songs on the album are just as amazing as the storyline songs. Starlight Starshine, Over the Moon, Star Valley Nights, are among some of the best songs I believe the band has created. This of course doesn't include the amazing songs that are part of the stories like Soliton, Fire Fire, Commander Cosmo, etc. Quite frankly, I like every single song on this album, and that's saying a lot because usually there's one or two I hate on any band's albums. Not the case this time. Steam Powered Giraffe have left what people would consider Steampunk with this album, and I say what an album to do that with. This is the way to do a space opera folks. I, for one, cannot wait to listen to it for the twentieth time.
  • Back to Story Telling

The Master Story Tellers have revisited their roots and given us a story for well…. story books. While MKIII seemed to focus a bit more on pop songs and less about legends, dreams, heroes, and villeins, we are finally given our fill of tales in this 2 part release. While the songs that are good are GOOD, there are a few that don’t seem to pick up steam (heh). Out of the 28 songs, I only frequently listen to about 14-17 of them which is a bit of a disappointment regarding the price for both albums. Either way, its defiantly worth a listen and if audiated epic tales aren’t your thing, you can always but the select few that are great stand alone songs.

Great songs some are amazing and excellent sounding thats not why i can’t give this 5 stars the songs are a little strange and it doesn’t seem really polished well on the music side of things the lyrics are amazing but the percussion for the music is lacking

Compared to the other albums that Steam Powered Giraffe have pushed out this one was the worst of them all. Not saying this album is bad but it isn't spectacular. While there's a lot of music on the album not a lot of songs have the same quality to them as past albums have. I think they threw together a bunch of songs and called it good. Not much was new in this two part album. I didn't feel a sense of fresh vibes coming from this. It's boring a lot of the times and I kind of wanted to stop listening. Only a select number of songs I really liked from this album were ones like "The Pulls" and "On a Cresendo." I'm afraid for whats in store on this new album I wish this musical project would be even more experimental than before. I loved MK III and that's my favorite Steam Powered Giraffe album. It's sad to see that people call this their favorite album. Overall this album is basically quantity over quality. It's a little boring and needed more variety.
