This is actually a great album. So diverse and unique. Give it a couple spins and you’ll pick up on some new sounds you may have missed the first time. It’s just Gary evolving. And if you hear these songs live, they are definitely more stripped down and bluesy than the album. Amazing either way

He is like the present day Jimmy Hendrix, with a more modern blues soul vibe too his music. All around a very good quality album, with skillful guitar riffs melted in all the way through to the last song.

This album is different from Gary's older stuff. But this different is so so good in its own way. I get that some people are disappointed because not every song has a guitar driven theme and a hard blues sound but it annoys me how people will give it a poor review just because it is different. This album is great in its own way, and I think it's great to see Gary experimenting and discovering new sounds. Don't let others keep you from exploring this new sound for yourself!

To be honest I don't know why people are hating on this that much.

I loved this dude when I first heard him a few years ago.I bought the iTunes Session album as soon as it came out rather than his Blak and Blu debut album.....I thought a couple of tracks on that one were too far from blues. My wife and I saw Gary and his band at the Greak Theatre in L.A..... we had terrible seats way up the back but we could hear Gary real clear.......he was unbelievable! Of course this concert was before he brought out The Story of Sonny Boy Slim which I was looking forward to but after listening to it decided to put Gary on the back burner.I've seen this radical new direction album to reach the wider audience thing a few times before with succesful artists like Nora Jones and Kenny Wayne Shepherd......and those change of direction albums bombed out too just like this one.I'm not interested in hip hop or modern R&B which is all over Gary's newest album like a rash.Thank God I didn't buy it!

Huge letdown, this album. Most of the music was uninspired and, frankly, boring. Repetitive as one can get. Songs went on and on ad nauseum. Gary should be ashamed for putting out this garbage. If If could give it a zero, I would. I would love to get a refund on this album; it is that bad. I certainly hope he redeems himself on his next album, because as he was rising up, he put out this trash and brought his career back to the beginning.
  • Only initially disappointed...

Only previewed the album on ITunes, but slightly disappointed because the "Blak and Blue" album was so damned good. I don't mind a fresh new sound, but screaming guitar-work on the previous album set a standard for new blues. I'm gonna listen to the whole album before I give it a real rating as 1-1/2 minute snipits of each song may not tell the story! OK...did a 2nd review and my mind has not changed...not a good eough album to add to my collection! Gonna go for the Live album!
  • Great album.

Gary Clark takes a different approach to music in this album and in many ways blurs the line between r&b/soul and blues. Very tasteful in my opinion, can't stop listening!
